Overview
Async is the platform formerly called Podcastle, renamed on 28 January 2026 with accounts, projects and pricing tiers carried over unchanged. It runs in the browser and covers recording, editing, transcription and publishing for audio and video in one place. Editing is driven by chat rather than a timeline: the instruction is typed and the tool re-cuts the piece. Magic Dust cleans up the audio by removing background noise and clarifying the voice, and a separate pass cuts filler words, pauses, repeated takes and bad takes. Around that sit automatic captions with styling, beat-synced pacing and transitions, generated B-roll and scenes, and one-click short-form clips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Remote recording takes up to 10 participants, with multitrack on the higher plans. The company splits the product into Async Studio for creators and enterprise teams and the Async Voice API, which exposes its own low-latency voice models to developers. Plans run Free, Essentials, Pro, Teams and Business and are metered in AI credits that reset each billing cycle, with yearly billing advertised at 40 percent off. Founded in 2020 as a Chrome extension that turned articles into podcasts, the company has raised $23.5M including a $13.5M Series A, backed by Andrew Ng's AI Fund, Mosaic Ventures, RTP Global, Point Nine and Sierra Ventures.
Best for podcasters and video creators who want to record, clean up and re-cut a session by describing the edit.
Async suits creators who would rather describe an edit than perform one, and it is most convincing when a single recording has to become several things: a full episode, a set of vertical clips and a transcript. That conversational approach is also where the trade-off sits, because steering by instruction is quick when the result is close and awkward when it is not, and the vendor's own interface warns that edits need reviewing. The credit meter, not the seat count, is what determines the real bill, so the honest question before committing is how much material actually gets processed each month rather than how many people log in. Anyone who needs frame-level control, or who is mastering music rather than speech, is working against the grain here.
