Overview
Fathom is an AI notetaker for Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls. It captures a meeting either with a bot in the call or bot-free from the desktop app, a beta option on Mac, then produces a transcript and an automated summary. Paid plans add advanced summaries drawn from over fifteen expert templates including BANT and Sandler, AI action items, follow-up emails and a conversational assistant that answers questions about a single call or across the whole account. Team plans bring shared folders, playlists of clips, comments and keyword alerts; the Business plan adds CRM field sync, a deal view and AI coaching scorecards. Transcripts are available in 38 languages, and summaries are translated automatically when a call is detected in Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italian or Dutch. A public REST API with webhooks, OAuth apps and TypeScript and Python SDKs sits alongside an MCP server with official Claude and ChatGPT connectors. The free plan carries unlimited recordings and transcriptions.
Best for sales and customer-facing teams who want every call recorded and summarised on a free plan, and the follow-up written back into the CRM once it is worth paying for.
The pull here is the free plan, which is unusually generous for this category and enough on its own for a freelancer or a small team who just want calls written up. Paying is about what happens after the meeting rather than the note itself: the jump to Business buys CRM writeback and coaching metrics, which is where a sales team gets its money back and where a team that only needs transcripts would be overpaying. The language support is lopsided and worth checking against how you actually work, because a call transcribed in one of the wider set still gets its summary in the original language unless it falls in the six that are translated.

FAQ
- Does Fathom need a bot to join my meeting?
- Not necessarily. Fathom offers a choice of capture types: a bot that joins the call, or bot-free capture, which the vendor lists as a beta feature on Mac. Both are available on the free plan.
- Which languages does Fathom support?
- Transcripts are available in 38 languages. Summaries are a narrower set: when a call is detected in Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italian or Dutch, Fathom translates the summary into that language automatically and sends the translated version in the post-meeting email. Summaries can also be switched between those six languages by hand.
- Can I get meeting data into my own tools?
- Yes. Fathom publishes a REST API for meetings, summaries, transcripts and downloads, webhooks that fire after a meeting, OAuth apps for integrations other Fathom users can install, and official TypeScript and Python SDKs. It also runs an MCP server, with official connectors for Claude and an app for ChatGPT.
