Overview

Thunkable builds native iOS and Android apps and web apps from one project. Its AI Builder takes a written description and generates a working project with screens and layouts already in place, which is then refined either by talking to the AI, by dragging components and blocks in the visual designer, or by editing directly in the built-in code editor. A Discuss Mode plans features and works through problems before anything is built, version history rolls a project back, and generated images come from Unsplash or an upload. Data connects to local tables, Google Sheets, Airtable, Webflow, the Firebase Realtime Database and Cloudinary, and documented integrations cover Firebase Authentication, OpenAI, Google Maps, Google Translate, RevenueCat for in-app purchases, AdMob for advertising and OneSignal for push notifications, with any other REST API reachable directly. Finished apps publish from the platform to the App Store, Google Play and the web on a custom domain, with TestFlight for iOS beta builds.

Best for solo makers and small teams that want to describe a mobile app, then refine it visually or in code and publish it to both stores.

Thunkable suits someone whose first move is to describe the app rather than draw it, and who then wants to stay in one place while it is tightened up: the same project can be argued with, dragged around or typed into. The plan boundaries decide whether it fits. Private projects and live published apps are both paid features, so a free account is for learning and public experiments rather than client work, and every tier meters AI tokens, which is the opposite trade to builders that charge a flat fee. The other thing to check before committing is what happens when a subscription lapses, because published apps and project privacy are tied to it.

Features

What it generates
Native iOS and Android apps plus web apps, generated from a written description by the AI Builder and then editable screen by screen
Stack and frameworks
Drag-and-drop designer with blocks, plus a built-in code editor for direct edits alongside the AI
Auth and database
Local tables, Google Sheets, Airtable, Webflow, the Firebase Realtime Database and Cloudinary; user sign-in through the Firebase Authentication REST API
Hosting and deploy
Published from the platform to the Apple App Store, Google Play and the web on a custom domain, with TestFlight for iOS beta builds
Payments
Yes, in-app purchases through RevenueCat, plus AdMob for advertising
Access to the code
Compiled builds rather than a repository: downloading an Android app sends an APK by email, and publishing sends an AAB to upload to the Play Store. No source-code export or Git sync is documented, so edits stay in the builder
