Adobe Firefly

Overview

Adobe Firefly is Adobe's family of generative AI models for creating images, video and vector art from text prompts. Its models are trained on Adobe Stock, openly licensed and public domain content, which is what lets Adobe offer contractual IP indemnification for generated content on qualifying plans. Firefly runs as a standalone web app and is built into Creative Cloud apps such as Photoshop, where it powers Generative Fill, and Adobe Express, and it is also available through the Firefly API for building generation into other products. Content Credentials are attached to Firefly output to mark it as AI generated.

Best for businesses and agencies that need legally safe images for client deliverables.

Firefly earns its place when the deliverable has to survive a client's legal review, because it settles a question the other generators leave open, and for agency work that is worth more than the last few percent of image quality. Judged on looks alone it is the safer rather than the more striking option. The value also thins outside Adobe's apps: a team that does not already work that way pays for an ecosystem it will not use, and heavy output is metered by credits rather than a flat allowance, so volume is worth costing out before it becomes the daily tool.
