Overview
NovelAI is a subscription service for writing fiction, with an image generator attached. The story editor keeps the model inside the text: a Lorebook holds characters, places and rules so they stay consistent across chapters, Memory and an Author's Note steer tone from above, a Text Adventure mode turns the same editor into interactive fiction, and modules and sampling presets push generations toward a style or genre. Text generation is unlimited on every tier, and what the tiers actually buy is context, how much of a story the model can hold at once, up to 28,672 tokens on Opus. The same subscription covers NovelAI Diffusion V5 for anime art, with image-to-image, inpainting and a Vibe Transfer feature that carries an aesthetic into new pictures, paid for from a monthly Anlas allowance. The three plans run at 10, 15 and 25 dollars a month, and a trial gives 30 image generations.
Best for novelists and interactive-fiction writers who need a story's own lore held in context.
This is one of the few assistants pointed at people writing fiction for its own sake rather than copy against a deadline, and the pricing follows that: the bill is flat, the words are unlimited, and the thing you buy more of is how much of the story the model still remembers. Anyone past a few chapters will end up on the top plan for that reason alone, because continuity is the actual problem in long fiction and everything else is easier. It is built for one writer at a desk, and the house style around it is anime-first, which suits some projects and sits oddly on others. Marketing and SEO writers are in the wrong shop entirely.

Features
- Content types
- Long-form fiction and interactive text adventure
- Brand voice
- No brand-voice profile. Prebuilt Style, Theme and Inspiration modules steer prose toward a genre or an author's body of work, and Phrase Bias raises or lowers the odds of chosen words; training new custom modules is no longer supported
- Content scoring
- No content score. The editor shows token probabilities behind each generated token instead, which reports the model's confidence rather than the quality of the text
- Drafting tools
- Lorebook, Memory, Author's Note, Text Adventure mode, modules and sampling presets
- Templates
- A story exports as a .scenario file carrying tags, a description and user-defined placeholders, so importing it reopens the story as a customisable starting point
- Team workflows
- Built for one writer. Work moves between accounts as files rather than seats: .story and .scenario for stories, .json, .lorebook or an image with the data embedded for Lorebooks
- API
- In-app scripting rather than a public HTTP API. Extensions are TypeScript scripts running sandboxed in a Web Worker, and they cannot make network requests
