Overview

YouTrack is JetBrains' issue tracker and project management tool, used by its own count in more than 100,000 companies. Work is held as issues with configurable fields and workflows, planned on Scrum and Kanban board presets or on custom boards, and scheduled on an interactive Gantt chart with estimates, dependencies and priorities. Time tracking is built in, manual or automated, and feeds detailed reports; the reporting side offers 20 configurable reports and unlimited dashboards that combine them. Next to the tracker sit a knowledge base for guides and FAQs, with rich content, comments and user mentions, and a helpdesk that turns emails or a form on your website into tickets with workflow automation and service-level agreements. AI assistance is included at no additional cost. The REST API is always enabled on both Cloud and self-hosted Server installations, and as of version 2026.1 it also carries the user, group and organization endpoints that previously lived only in the Hub API. Both deployments are free for teams of up to 10 users.

YouTrack trades opinion for configurability, and the free ten-user tier means a small team can run the whole thing, self-hosted if it wants, for nothing at all. Where Jira or Linear hand you a working process on the first day, this hands you the parts and expects someone to assemble the fields, workflows and boards. Teams with a person willing to own that setup end up with a tracker shaped exactly like their process, and with time tracking and a helpdesk that would be paid add-ons elsewhere. Teams without one should expect the first few weeks to go into configuration rather than into the work itself.
