Overview
Webflow is a browser-based platform for designing, publishing and running websites. Pages are built on a visual canvas that writes real HTML and CSS underneath, with a class-based style system, breakpoints, variables, components and Shared Libraries that carry those pieces across every site in a Workspace. Around the canvas sit a CMS, hosting, localization, site search, SEO and AEO tooling and an activity log. The AI side covers several jobs: an AI site builder starts a site from a prompt, and AI also modifies page designs, generates copy, generates React code components and returns actionable suggestions from sitewide SEO and AEO audits. For developers there are REST Data and Designer APIs, SDKs, a CLI, DevLink for React components, Webflow Cloud for full-stack app hosting and an official MCP server that lets agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and ChatGPT work on a site within the user's existing Webflow permissions. Sites are sold per site and start on a free Starter plan; Workspace plans are billed separately and are what unlock staging, custom code and code export.
Best for designers and agencies who want a visual canvas with real CSS control, a CMS and an export path out.
Webflow is the option for people who want the control of hand-written front-end code without writing it, and who expect to keep that control later. Because the canvas works in classes rather than fixed templates, a design system built once holds across a large site, and the export path means the markup is not hostage to the platform the way it is on most website builders. The price of that is a learning curve: someone who does not think in terms of a cascade will find it slower than a template tool, and the billing asks for two subscriptions before the useful parts appear. The gap in the middle of the range is the other thing to plan around, because a growing site that outgrows Premium has nowhere to go but a plan priced for a company with a procurement process.

Features
- What it makes
- Responsive websites built on a visual canvas, with a CMS, hosting, site search, localization and SEO and AEO tooling
- AI generation
- An AI site builder starts a site from a prompt, and AI also modifies page designs, generates copy, generates React code components and turns sitewide SEO and AEO audits into actionable suggestions. AI credits are allocated per Workspace plan: 200 on Starter, 300 on Core, 400 on Growth
- Brand, style and templates
- Class-based style system with combo classes, breakpoints, variables and components, Shared Libraries that reuse components, variables and assets across every site in a Workspace, plus a template marketplace
- Export and handoff
- Publishes to Webflow hosting on a webflow.io or custom domain. Code export produces clean, semantic HTML and CSS for a developer and is available on the Core and Growth Workspace plans, but dynamic CMS items and pages cannot be exported. Figma to Webflow and DevLink move designs and React components between tools
- API
- Yes, REST APIs and SDKs, a Designer API for building apps, DevLink, a CLI and an official MCP server that exposes those APIs to AI agents

Pros and Cons
Strengths
- Visual canvas writes real HTML and CSS, with a class-based style system rather than fixed templates
- Code export produces clean, semantic HTML and CSS instead of locking the markup in
- Official MCP server lets AI agents design, manage and analyse a site within existing permissions
- Deep developer platform: Data and Designer APIs, SDKs, DevLink, CLI and Webflow Cloud
Limitations
- Two separate plans to pay for, since site plans and Workspace plans are billed apart
- Code export is a Workspace add-on and cannot carry CMS items or pages
- The jump from Premium at $25 to Team at $2,500 a month leaves nothing in between
- The class-based style system is powerful but expects an understanding of how CSS cascades
