Memtime is an automatic time tracking program that runs on the desktop and records what a computer is used for without timers or manual entry. It captures activity across programs, documents and browser tabs and lays it out as a timeline in short intervals, which is what lets a past day be assigned to projects afterwards. Billing does not happen in the app: entries are exported or pushed into more than 100 project, accounting and time tracking tools. The tracking data stays on each user's own device.
Our take
Memtime suits people who bill their hours and still forget to start a timer, because there is nothing to start and the day can be pieced together later. The privacy stance is the second reason to pick it: since the vendor states that the automatic timeline is stored on the device and not uploaded to its cloud, it can be introduced to a team without the surveillance argument that sinks most automatic trackers. The trade-off is scope. There is no invoicing, no web or mobile app and no admin dashboard over the team, so it works as the capture layer in front of a project or accounting tool rather than as the system of record.
