Overview
Mistral Vibe for Code is the coding half of Mistral's Vibe product, built as a terminal-native agent that explores repositories, edits files and runs commands. The same agent is available through native extensions for Visual Studio Code, JetBrains and Zed, through the Vibe web app, and as async agents that keep working after a session ends. Four Mistral models sit behind it, covering complex multi-step work, fast completions and semantic code search. It connects to GitHub, GitLab and Jira, and can run inside a customer VPC or self-hosted on-premises.
Our take
Vibe for Code is the option to look at when the code cannot leave the building. Very few coding agents of this maturity can be run inside a customer VPC or on-premises at all, and that alone will decide it for regulated teams, who also get a European vendor. For everyone else the calculation is more ordinary: $14.99 a month is at the low end for a tool that combines inline completion with a multi-file agent, and the included API credits soften the entry further. The trade is model choice. Where competitors let a developer swap in Claude or GPT for a hard problem, here the answer is always a Mistral model, so the ceiling is set by that one lab's roadmap. Small teams should also note that the per-user Team price carries a floor, which makes a group of two cost more per head than the sticker suggests.
