Overview
Submagic is a browser-based AI editor for short-form video. It takes existing footage, such as a podcast, a YouTube video or phone recordings, and turns it into captioned clips for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with captions in more than 100 languages. AI Auto Edit applies captions, B-roll, transitions, zooms and pacing in one pass, while the manual tools cover text-based trimming, removal of silences and filler words, audio clean-up and music. Plans are per member and credit-based, and finished videos can be scheduled and published from the editor.
Our take
Submagic suits people who already film and want the editing to disappear, rather than people looking for a model that invents footage. The strongest case is a steady pipeline of talking-head or podcast clips, where the one-pass auto edit and the scheduling replace hours of manual cutting each week. The plan ladder matters more than the headline price: the per-video length limit decides whether long recordings fit at all, and API volume beyond a small allowance is bought separately. If you need generated scenes or characters, something else has to sit alongside it.

Features
- Inputs
- Mainly existing footage: an uploaded file of up to 3,000 MB or a video link, with a per-video length limit of 2 minutes on Starter, 5 on Pro and 30 on Business. Magic Clips takes a long video or YouTube link and cuts it into shorts. Generated input exists too: AI Actor Studio turns typed text into a video of a stock avatar speaking it, and AI B-roll and AI images are generated from a text prompt
- Editing control
- Yes. AI Auto Edit applies captions, B-roll, transitions, zooms and pacing in one click with three style templates. Manual tools include text-based trimming, removal of silences, bad takes and filler words, animated caption templates, hook titles, B-roll from stock or generated, a brand kit, custom templates and reusable presets. Through the API, the transcript can be corrected before rendering
- Character and shot consistency
- No generative character consistency, since it edits real footage rather than generating scenes. A series stays uniform through brand kits, custom templates and presets that reapply the same theme, audio, logo and B-roll, and AI Actor Studio can reuse the same avatar across videos
- Audio and lip-sync
- Works mainly on the source audio: AI audio clean-up, filler-word and silence removal, background music and sound effects, and caption or voice translation. In AI Actor Studio, typed text is spoken by a choice of AI voices
- Generation speed
- Priority rendering is listed on the Business plan; the vendor does not publish processing times
- API
- Yes. A REST API at api.submagic.co with an API key creates projects from a URL or upload, generates Magic Clips, exports, and publishes or schedules to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook and LinkedIn, with webhooks and publishing analytics. Rate limits run from 50 exports to 1,000 lookups an hour. An MCP endpoint at api.submagic.co/mcp uses the same key and credits for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and other MCP clients. API minutes are included in the plans (the pricing page lists 100 a month on Business), and more are sold in packs

FAQ
- Is there a free version of Submagic?
- There is a free trial. You can upload three short videos and edit them, but the exports carry a watermark. Downloading without a watermark needs a paid plan, starting with Starter at $19 per member per month, or $12 billed annually.
- How long can a video be?
- Uploads can be up to 3,000 MB. The length limit per video depends on the plan: 2 minutes on Starter, 5 on Pro and 30 on Business.
- Does Submagic have an API?
- Yes. The REST API creates captioned projects from a URL or upload, generates Magic Clips, exports, and publishes or schedules posts to social platforms, with webhooks for completed jobs. The same API key also works with the MCP endpoint at api.submagic.co/mcp for Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor.

No reviews yet. Nothing has been published here yet, and no score is shown. How a review is checked before it appears is described below.
How we check reviews
Reviews are not published yet. The form on a tool's page works, and a review reaches us as soon as its author confirms it, but nothing from it appears on this site, so no score here is based on a review. The rules below are the ones that will apply once reviews go live.
Before sending, the author has to confirm three things: that they have used the product themselves, that they work neither for the vendor nor for a competitor, and that nobody is paying them for the review. We also ask whether the vendor invited them to write it. That answer is required, either answer is accepted, and it stays with the review.
Every review is read by a person before it appears. An email address is required and is confirmed: we send a link to it, and a review does not reach us until the author opens that link, so a review has a sender who was reachable at least once rather than being anonymous. Where what somebody writes needs backing, we ask them for evidence that they used the product, and a review that does not get it is not published. We publish positive and negative reviews alike, we pay nothing and offer nothing for a review, and we accept none that was bought or incentivised.
What we cannot do is verify a purchase. There is no shop here and no account, so whether the author really used the tool rests on their own declaration, on whatever we ask them for, and on the plausibility of what they write. We say so rather than implying a check that does not exist.
A vendor cannot buy a review, and cannot have one removed or changed because they dislike it. We remove or edit a review only if it breaks our rules or the law, for example a false statement of fact. Paid placement has no effect on which reviews appear or on any score.
