Overview
Accountable is bookkeeping, invoicing and tax software for self-employed people in Germany, with a separate offering for Belgium. It is built for freelancers and sole traders rather than companies such as a UG or GmbH. It runs as a mobile app and in the browser, with the free plan limited to the app. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions in four steps, from invoicing alone to tax filing with a personal tax coach.
Our take
Pick Accountable if you are a German freelancer or sole trader who wants the tax return handled in the same app that writes the invoices, and who would rather have a tax coach on chat than a tax adviser on retainer. It is the wrong tool once you run a UG or GmbH, need accrual-based VAT (Soll-Versteuerung) or employ staff: a company that keeps double-entry books is better served by a full accounting package such as sevdesk or Lexware Office, with the year-end left to an adviser.
