Factory is an enterprise platform for agentic software development, built around autonomous agents it calls Droids. The Droids run across a desktop app, a command-line interface and an SDK, and can work as cloud or local background agents that carry out multi-step engineering tasks, while higher tiers add Factory-managed cloud computers for remote agents. It is aimed at teams, with admin controls over model selection and autonomy levels, SSO, zero data retention, audit logging and, on the enterprise tier, on-premise deployment. Our take
Factory is bought by an engineering organisation, not by a developer trying something at the weekend, and the absence of a free tier says as much. What you are paying for is less the agent than the controls around it: who may run what, at what level of autonomy, and where the code sits while it happens. If your team has never had that question come up, a cheaper agent will do the same work. If it comes up in every procurement conversation, this is the shape of answer that gets signed off.
