Overview
Gemini Notebook is Google's source-grounded research assistant, renamed from NotebookLM in July 2026. Work is organised into notebooks, and each notebook answers only from the material put into it: documents, slides, spreadsheets, web pages, images, audio, YouTube links and pasted text. From that material it produces cited answers plus audio and video overviews, mind maps, infographics, flashcards, slide decks and reports. Each notebook also has a secure cloud computer that writes and runs code for data analysis grounded in those sources, and it is free with a Google account.
Our take
The appeal here is the constraint: because a notebook answers from what you put in it, the usual worry about an assistant inventing a fact largely goes away, and the citation points back at the paragraph it came from. That makes it a good fit for reading through a stack of documents, a contract set or a term's worth of material, and a poor fit for anything that needs knowledge you have not supplied. The generated formats are the second reason people stay, since the same set of sources turns into something to listen to, watch or hand round without a second pass. The free tier is generous on storage and stingy on use, so heavy days run into the daily caps rather than the notebook count, and that is the point at which a paid Google AI plan starts to matter.

How we check reviews
Reviews are not published yet. The form on a tool's page works and reaches us, but nothing from it appears on this site, so no score here is based on a review. The rules below are the ones that will apply once reviews go live.
Every review is read by a person before it appears. We require a working email address and use it to come back to the author, so a review has a reachable sender rather than being anonymous. We publish positive and negative reviews alike, we pay nothing and offer nothing for a review, and we accept none that was bought or incentivised.
What we cannot do is verify a purchase. There is no shop here and no account, so whether the author really used the tool rests on what they tell us, plus the plausibility of what they write. We say so rather than implying a check that does not exist.
A vendor cannot have a review removed, cannot buy one, and cannot have one changed. Paid placement and a paid listing have no effect on which reviews appear or on any score.
