Overview

Devin is an autonomous AI software engineer from Cognition that works like a teammate rather than an in-editor assistant. You assign it a Linear or Jira ticket, a bug to reproduce, a migration or a refactor, and it plans the work, writes and runs code in its own cloud environment, tests it and opens a pull request. It runs from a web app, a CLI, Slack and Microsoft Teams, ships an embedded editor (Devin Desktop, the renamed Windsurf IDE) and exposes a Devin API for programmatic use. Enterprise usage is metered in Agent Compute Units, a normalized measure of the agent effort each task consumes.

Best for engineering teams that want to delegate backlog tickets, bug fixes and migrations to an agent that runs them end to end in the cloud.

Devin rewards teams whose backlog is full of work that can be written down completely: a clear ticket, a reproducible bug, a mechanical migration.
