Overview
Dynamics 365 Finance is Microsoft's cloud financial management application, the larger sibling of Business Central. Its feature areas cover accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and financial reporting, budgeting, cash and bank management, fixed assets, asset leasing, cost accounting and public sector functionality. A separate electronic invoicing service handles configurable processing and exchange of electronic invoices, transforming business data into XML, JSON, TXT or CSV and submitting it to external web services with digital signatures. Business performance analytics is included in the licence and builds reporting and dashboards on Dataverse and Power BI, while Finance insights adds machine learning models for cash flow forecasting, customer payment predictions and budget proposals, funded from 20,000 AI Builder credits per tenant per month. Microsoft states compliance coverage across 57 countries and 67 languages. It is licensed per user per month on annual billing, with a Premium edition that adds Copilot Credits.
Best for larger finance teams already invested in Microsoft that need multi-country compliance and reporting on Power BI.
This is where a finance team lands once Business Central runs out of room, and the deciding factor is usually the Microsoft estate around it rather than the ledger itself: if reporting already lives in Power BI and Fabric, the analytics come without a second contract or a second data pipeline. The AI is worth weighing carefully, because the parts that would change a close, reconciliation and the Finance Agent, are still in preview while invoice capture and the prediction models are not. Note also that the per-seat price is a multiple of the mid-market tier, so the case has to rest on scale or on multi-country compliance, not on features alone.
