Overview

EARLY, formerly Timeular and now part of TimeTac, records working time in the background instead of asking for a timer to be started. It watches the apps, documents, websites and meetings and turns them into proposed time entries, which are confirmed rather than typed, and it also offers an optional eight-sided physical tracker that starts an entry when flipped onto a side. On top of the entries sit billable rates and project budgets. New sign-ups are routed to TimeTac, while existing customers keep the same app and plan.

Our take

The pitch here is that the tracking happens whether or not anyone remembers it, which is the failure mode of every timer-based tool and the reason timesheets get reconstructed on Friday from memory. That suits people whose day fragments across many short pieces of work, and it asks in return that a background recorder watch the desktop, which is a trade some teams and works councils will not make. The physical tracker is the part that gets the attention and the least essential part of the product: it is a nice habit device, not the reason to buy. The bigger caveat is availability: with new sign-ups going to TimeTac, EARLY is today mainly a question for teams already using it, deciding whether to stay, rather than a tool a newcomer can start on.

How we check reviews

Reviews are not published yet. The form on a tool's page works and reaches us, but nothing from it appears on this site, so no score here is based on a review. The rules below are the ones that will apply once reviews go live.

Every review is read by a person before it appears. We require a working email address and use it to come back to the author, so a review has a reachable sender rather than being anonymous. We publish positive and negative reviews alike, we pay nothing and offer nothing for a review, and we accept none that was bought or incentivised.

What we cannot do is verify a purchase. There is no shop here and no account, so whether the author really used the tool rests on what they tell us, plus the plausibility of what they write. We say so rather than implying a check that does not exist.

A vendor cannot have a review removed, cannot buy one, and cannot have one changed. Paid placement and a paid listing have no effect on which reviews appear or on any score.

The overall score is the average of the six ratings above. Nothing is weighted, and a paid placement does not change a single one of them.
