Spendesk
AI-based automation is one of the add-on modules, and Spendesk AI Connect lets a finance team search, analyse and report on spend data in plain language through an AI assistant.

Overview
Spendesk is a spend management platform that puts company cards, expense claims, accounts payable, procurement and budgets in one place. Employees draw on unlimited virtual cards, request top-ups and upload receipts from the mobile app, while spend limits and approval workflows are set centrally so budgets are protected before the money moves. Spendesk keeps no ledger: transactions, receipts and invoices export to Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP and DATEV. Pricing is modular and quoted, a base plan plus add-ons charged as a fixed monthly fee with no per-user charge.
Our take
Spendesk suits a European finance team that wants one system for cards, claims and supplier invoices and is prepared to go through a sales conversation to find out what it costs. Charging by transaction volume rather than per seat means the whole company can be given cards without the licence count becoming the deciding factor, which is the opposite trade to most tools in this category. The read-only MCP connector is a sober choice worth noting: an assistant can answer questions about the spend but cannot approve or pay anything, so it removes a category of risk instead of adding one. The gap to watch is the ledger, since the platform stops at the export and someone still has to keep the books.

Features
- Invoicing and quotes
- Incoming supplier invoices only, through the Accounts Payable module: invoices are collected, matched, routed for approval and paid, with Procurement covering the purchase request and order beforehand. Customer invoicing and accounts receivable are not among the listed modules
- Bookkeeping and bank feeds
- No general ledger of its own; transactions, receipts and invoices export automatically to Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP and DATEV
- Expenses and receipts
- Yes, unlimited virtual cards and free physical cards with per-card limits and no monthly card fee, expense claims, and receipt capture from the iOS and Android app
- Tax and compliance
- VAT support rather than filing: Smart OCR reads merchant, date, amount and VAT from each receipt, the original image is kept in an encrypted, audit-ready archive next to the extracted fields, and the reconciled data syncs to Xero, QuickBooks and NetSuite for the VAT return itself
- Payroll
- No payroll module; the platform covers company cards, expense claims, accounts payable, procurement and budgets, with HR tools connected through integrations
- Reports and exports
- Yes, integrated budgeting and spend visibility across several entities, plus Spendesk AI Connect for querying spend data, building reports and checking budget variance in plain language through an AI assistant

Pros and Cons
Strengths
- Cards, expense claims, accounts payable, procurement and budgets in one platform
- No per-user charge, so cards and access can be given to the whole company
- Unlimited virtual cards, and physical cards with no order or monthly fee
- Exports to DATEV alongside Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite and SAP, which matters in the German-speaking market
- Official MCP connector is read-only by design, so an assistant cannot change records
Limitations

- Variable fees on card purchases, invoice payments and expense claims come on top of the fixed monthly fee
- Much of the platform sits in paid add-ons rather than the Foundations base plan
- Not a general ledger; a separate accounting system is still needed

FAQ
- What does Spendesk cost?
- Spendesk publishes no prices. The model is a fixed monthly subscription for platform access plus variable fees based on transaction volume across card purchases, invoice payments and expense claims. There is no per-user charge, and physical cards carry no order or monthly fee. Every quote is made on request.
- Does Spendesk replace my accounting software?
- No. Spendesk keeps no general ledger. Transactions, receipts and invoices export to Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP and DATEV, which stay the system of record.
- Can an AI assistant work in Spendesk?
- Yes, through Spendesk AI Connect, an official MCP connector that works with assistants such as Claude and Dust. It is read-only by design: an assistant can query wallet balances, payables, purchase orders, suppliers, users and cost centres, but cannot create payments, approve invoices, modify suppliers or change records.
- Which plan includes Accounts Payable?
- Accounts Payable is an add-on rather than part of the Foundations base plan, as are Procurement, advanced workflows and policies, multi-entity management, HR and ERP integrations and AI-based automation.

How we check reviews
Reviews are not published yet. The form on a tool's page works and reaches us, but nothing from it appears on this site, so no score here is based on a review. The rules below are the ones that will apply once reviews go live.
Every review is read by a person before it appears. We require a working email address and use it to come back to the author, so a review has a reachable sender rather than being anonymous. We publish positive and negative reviews alike, we pay nothing and offer nothing for a review, and we accept none that was bought or incentivised.
What we cannot do is verify a purchase. There is no shop here and no account, so whether the author really used the tool rests on what they tell us, plus the plausibility of what they write. We say so rather than implying a check that does not exist.
A vendor cannot have a review removed, cannot buy one, and cannot have one changed. Paid placement and a paid listing have no effect on which reviews appear or on any score.
