Overview
Dotdigital is a cross-channel marketing automation platform built around a customer data platform that feeds campaigns on email, SMS and MMS, WhatsApp, mobile app push, web personalization and retargeting ads. Emails are built in EasyEditor, a drag-and-drop editor with templates, and the automation program builder runs journeys from customizable templates for welcome, cart abandonment, birthday and win-back sequences. Dynamic content blocks, countdown timers and real-time customer data personalize each send, while dedicated IPs, SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication and an onboarding team for domain warm-up look after deliverability. The AI arrives as named agents: a Segment Agent builds an audience from a plain-English description, a Content Agent drafts and rewrites copy inside EasyEditor in a stored brand voice, and subject line suggestions, send time optimization and predictive segmentation sit behind the campaigns. More than 200 integrations cover Shopify, Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce and WooCommerce as well as Salesforce, HubSpot and Microsoft Dynamics 365, and REST APIs in two versions plus a Marketing MCP server open the account to other systems and to AI tools. The company is headquartered in London. Billing is contact-based, counted on the highest number of marketable contacts in a period, and prices are not published.
Best for ecommerce and retail marketing teams that want email, SMS and WhatsApp running off the same store data.
Dotdigital sits between the self-serve senders and the enterprise suites, and for most buyers the ecommerce connections decide it: a store on Shopify or Adobe Commerce gets order and behaviour data flowing without a project wrapped around it. The billing model is what to work out before signing, because a contact counts as soon as it is marketable on any one channel, so the same people on an email list and an SMS list are not charged twice, but someone suppressed on email and still subscribed to SMS is charged all the same. With no published rates you cannot line it up against a per-send tool on a spreadsheet, and that is a real cost when the alternative prints its prices.

FAQ
- How is Dotdigital billed?
- On contacts, not on sends. Dotdigital counts the highest number of marketable contacts in your account during a billing period. A contact counts if it is subscribed on at least one channel, email, SMS or WhatsApp, or if it was sent to during the period, even when it is deleted or suppressed afterwards. Only a contact fully suppressed across all active channels is not billable.
- Does Dotdigital support MCP?
- Yes. The Dotdigital Marketing MCP server connects the account to external AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, so contacts, campaigns and data can be worked with in natural language from an MCP client.
- Which ecommerce platforms and CRMs does it integrate with?
- Shopify, Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce and WooCommerce on the ecommerce side, and Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Oracle NetSuite among the business systems, out of more than 200 integrations.
